Lauritsala library

Cooperation with CDM was excellent. They came up with the brilliant idea of Heli Pukki’s wall paintings, which created a colourful, personal feel for the club room. The style of the building’s era was carefully incorporated. We also found the furniture design and colour idea generation very helpful.

The Lauritsala library represents beautiful and clear 1950s functionalism. CDM designed the library’s multipurpose space into an experience space for around 20 people in which new colours, materials and furniture are used alongside old furniture. The space is used as a meeting room, for story time, showing films and hosting book clubs. The users are in all age groups, from pre-school to seniors.

Story time produced the idea of cooperation with a local artist, Heli Pukki. She created a five-part series of paintings in which the familiar Finnish storybook characters Kettuset (“little foxes”) have adventures on Lake Saimaa and in Lauritsala.
