Assi Group’s Vapaudenaukio is a full-service office building in the heart of Lappeenranta. More than 60 customer companies operate in the modern premises of 14,000 square meters. The premises of the main lobby were renovated when the low and dark lobby was wanted to be more open and bright. In addition to the entrance hall, the change included the reception staff’s workspace, the back workspace, the walls of the corridors and the mail room. So the big change was achieved only by changing the surfaces, appearance, lighting and equipment. The size of the premises was not changed, and the walls were not moved. In the same context, one of the smaller entrance lobbies of Vapaudenaukio was also redecorated.
CDM was responsible for planning the change: colors, lighting, materials and furniture, as well as project management. The project lasted a total of four months, and it was carried out during the quieter summer time. The lobby facilities were in use throughout the change, so special arrangements and flexibility were needed.
The starting point of the design was the client’s wish to have an entrance hall that gives a humane and close feeling. We didn’t want the space to have a traditional business parking-like grand entrance, but a Lappeenranta way of welcoming guests.
